Volunteer
We invite you to join our community of volunteers. There are many ways you can give of your time.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is a committed group of people who provide governance and strategic vision to Adoption Center of Illinois. We welcome all people touched by adoption to consider joining the Board, this includes birth parents, adoptive parents, adopted adults or other invested individuals. We request a two-year commitment for our Board of Directors.
Duties typically include:
- Providing organizational oversight and leadership
- Attending quarterly meetings
- Assisting with organizational initiatives
If you are interested in learning more about our Board of Directors, please contact Jane Turner, Executive Director, at jturner@adoptillinois.org.
Event Committee
The event committee provides leadership and support for various events throughout the year. Some of these events are the Forever Family Gala, Annual Picnic and Holiday Open House. We generally request a one-year commitment for our Event Committee.
Duties typically include:
- attending event planning meetings or conference calls
- providing guidance on event details
- acquiring auction items
- assisting with any mailings
- helping set-up the day of the event
If you are interested in joining our event committee, please contact developement@adoptillinois.org
Day-of Event Assistance
We are frequently looking for volunteer help the day of our events! This is a great way to volunteer for those looking for a shorter commitment or for those looking to complete required volunteer hours for a school organization or religious ceremony. Please note that certain volunteer roles or events may have age restrictions.
Some frequent volunteer roles include:
- Registration
- Raffle Ticket Sales
- Activity Monitoring
- Merchandise Sales
Currently, we do not have any day-of event volunteer opportunities available.
If you’d like to be notified when day-of event volunteer opportunities are available, please contact development@adoptillinois.org
Phone Team
We think it’s important that potential birth parents or prospective adoptive parents reach a real person when they contact us, regardless of the time of day. Our amazing phone team volunteers provide after-hours support so that our phone line can run 24-7. The office phone lines can be forwarded to your home or cell phone so you can easily answer calls.
Please contact Pam Brown at pbrown@adoptillinois.org for more information on joining the phone team.
Temporary Foster Care
Newborn infants are often discharged from the hospital prior to potential birth parents making a final decision on their adoption plan. Temporary care may be needed if the potential birth parents need more time to consider if adoption is the right choice. Sometimes temporary care is needed before an adoptive family is prepared to take the child into their home. Families who maintain an active foster care license can provide temporary care to these children. Temporary care can be needed from a few days to a few weeks.
Currently, we are not looking for additional temporary foster families.
